This ultra-stylish new hotel, perched high above the Med, has panoramic views of the Côte d’Azur to Italy and Monaco, from $2290 to $30,560 a night.
This is the first French effort from Maybourne Hotel Group, which also operates Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley in London, and California’s The Maybourne Beverly Hills.looks a bit like a square white office block – albeit one perched precariously over a rock above the village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the Côte d’Azur. When viewed from directly below you realise the building is triangular and mimics the prow of an ultra-modern ship.
The hotel’s interior design was apparently a collaborative effort between an in-house team and various artists and decorators, with an apparent focus on local arts and crafts. Everything is ultra-modern, all fittings and furniture incredibly solid and high-end. I’m not sure, though, about the Louise Bourgeois sculpture suspended above the lobby. It looks like two people and several pythons copulating.
Not that you’ll necessarily have to leave the hotel. There is a spa offering holistic restorative treatments , with each room having a private terrace and Mediterranean views. And there are a variety of places beyond Ceto to eat and drink in-house.
