An Aboriginal man claimed Yes campaigners silenced him and said to 'sit down and shut up' simply for asking questions about the Voice, leaving him 'extremely upset.' However, audio of the exchange tells a different story.

Seventy people attended the Bundaberg Yes23 event to hear activists Thomas Mayo and Jade Appo-Ritchie make the case for a Voice.

“One of the main questions I asked is about the number of Indigenous members in Parliament – three in the in the House of Representatives and eight in the Senate – I said, if that's not a voice to Parliament, then what is?” Mr Appo told 2GB. “Another one of their group got up from the front row, turned around and told me to sit down and shut up."Confirming that Mr Appo had attended the Bundaberg event, a campaign spokesperson for Yes23 said they did not accept his version of events.

Jade Appo-Ritchie said the number of Indigenous Australian MPs was"awesome" but that they had other constituencies to represent. Picture: Facebook

Mr Turnbull launched a scathing attack on the new venture, saying the channel would be dedicated to “solely” to the risks the Voice proposal presents. Ms Jayes pointed out Mr Turnbull had not watched the channel and had no idea what the content offering was. “And what we are going to be seeing on the channel is what no one else in the media landscape is doing, is presenting both sides of the argument. Presenting live events, speeches, interviews … media conferences so that people are informed,” she said. “This coming from a prime minister that rejected the Uluru Statement from the Heart, did nothing on this when he was prime minster.” Ms Jayes added she was happy to have Mr Turnbull on her program AM Agenda to discuss the issue further.
