While construction of the new Chifley South tower is some years away yet, the approval underscores the confidence major developers have in the Sydney CBD.
For Charter Hall, the council approval also vindicates its foresight four years ago in recognising the development potential at Chifley Square, first getting control of the site’s freehold,The existing tower will be known as Chifley North while its new twin, Chifley South, will comprise more than 64,000 square metres of space.
The planning approval from City of Sydney follows a “gateway determination” from the state government, which got the project rolling. Next stop for the ambitious plan is gazettal and a design excellence competition.
