Chelsea reportedly made a transfer enquiry for former Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi just days before he helped Nottingham Forest win at Stamford Bridge

Consequently, onlookers have repeatedly joked how a club can spend over £1bn on a team and still be so poor. Yet Chelsea would have spent more this summer, and reportedly made an enquiry for one former Liverpool striker in the final days of the transfer window. In contrast, Awoniyi is in sensational form at the moment with only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo outscoring him so far this season. The Nigerian has three goals so far this campaign, picking up where he left off last year in the process.
But catching the eye in a succession of loan moves, his career has reached new heights since leaving Anfield permanently.
