The newly departed opposition Indigenous spokesman does not think the Voice to parliament is headed for success at the moment.
He says Australians yet to be convinced about the Voice fall into three groups: those opposed on philosophical or constitutional grounds; those who back it, or want to back it in principle, but have genuine doubts; and people yet to engage with the idea. “Last Monday, I put forward a new amended model for the Voice at the National Press Club. It was a model about putting the referendum on a safer footing. I did so because I don’t think the referendum is tracking to success with support in the mid-50s.
