China has taken a dig at Australia following a new report on projected east coast gas supply shortages, calling the latest update 'laughable' and saying it is reflective of the nation's 'overconfidence'.
"Weeks before the Russia-Ukraine conflict started, Australia's former prime minister Scott Morrison suggested Australia could step in and help when it comes to supplying its huge reserves of liquefied natural gas to its European allies," The Global Times said.
The consumer watchdog had pushed for government intervention, warning the projected shortfall figure was a"significant risk to energy security". The ACCC report outlined concerns that some LNG exporters were not engaging with the domestic market in the spirit in which the heads of agreement was signed.
