Beijing considers the island nation to be a part of China and has long vowed to bring it under the control of the Communist Party.
But China does not consider Taiwan to be an independent nation, and under its"One China" policy has vowed to bring the island back under Beijing's control, whether by diplomatic or military means.
China's Taiwan Affairs Office said Thursday that it still considers Taiwan to be part of China, and warned that any suggestion otherwise presents a great risk for the island. "It will surely be opposed by all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots," it added, adding that reunification of the two countries cannot be stopped by any nation or force.
