A “young, healthy and energetic” Australian has died suddenly just one month after returning from a dream holiday in Japan. Christine Visnijic, 24, woke up on the morning of January 10 with severe pain in her leg. After realising her leg was also red and swollen, Visnijic’s dad rushed her to the hospital. On the drive there, the Sydney woman started vomiting, had a seizure and fell unconscious.
While her exact cause of death has not been determined, her heartbroken brother Jason said they suspect she suffered from deep vein thrombosis after her long flight. “Christine unknowingly suffered from DVT whereby she shortly experienced a bilateral stroke,” he wrote on a GoFundMe. “She was 24 years young and had no warning of such an event and despite all of the help that could be offered from the best available medical facilities and professionals, her life could not be saved.
