After all, who really wants 20 household gadgets when the gold and diamond earrings or the BMW coupe are on offer?
Meanwhile, independent Allegra Spender’s coffers in the once blue-ribbon seat of Wentworth are bulging with– and that’s before Holmes a Court and Climate 200 makes good his pledge. Five hundred thousand dollars is a big lick in anyone’s language. Spender’s community campaign is also looking positively Clive Palmeresque, as political fundraising goes.
What is going on in the seat of Wentworth in Sydney is a fundraising and campaigning extravaganza of American proportions. Ditto in the electorates of Kooyong and Goldstein in Melbourne where old-fashioned, local door knocking has given way to expensive full-page, statewide advertisements, and mobile billboards. Push polling – an odious political weapon at best, is in overdrive. OK. That’s legal.
