Christopher Patrick Farrell, a Tasmanian man who was caught with 'depraved and vile' child abuse material that he often sourced while under the influence of illicit drugs, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
A Tasmanian man who was caught with more 1,000 files containing images and videos of child abuse and bestiality material has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The court also heard he engaged in "highly depraved" conversations where he preyed on children with disabilities and homeless children, and had bestiality material in his possession. Ms Breckweg said Farrell used social media forums such as Telegraph, WhatsApp and Kik to ask other internet users about their preferences and whether they were interested in young children, before moving to direct messaging where he would send and receive child abuse material.
The court was told Farrell had been the victim of multiple sexual assaults, had low self-esteem, and had been living in a highly anxious state at the time of the offending.On Wednesday, Acting Supreme Court Justice David Porter sentenced Farrell to seven years in prison with a four-year non-parole period.During sentencing, Justice Porter said access and possession tended to create a demand for production, adding "these are not victimless crimes.
