The City of Melbourne has unveiled its latest push to rid the CBD of graffiti, with crews to be on standby at all hours of the day to remove tags scrawled around the area.

The City of Melbourne has launched a new crackdown on graffiti in the council area following a new cleaning contract which sees crews out and about 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Priority will be given to the removal of offensive graffiti. The new contract comes alongside the council investing $97 million into clean city services between 2021 and 2024. "We know the best deterrent to crack down on repeat offenders is to remove graffiti as soon as possible. "Council has set stronger environmental targets for the new service - reducing emissions, increasing non-potable water usage, and diverting more waste from landfill," the council said.
