Despite a few stranded Australian coal shipments entering China last year, Queensland miner Coronado expects bans on Australian coal will persist.
P Global Platts said that September record had been broken three times in the past week.
Strong demand in Korea and Japan has driven the rally over the past seven weeks, along with Indonesia’s decision to ban coal exports, and Coronado chief executive Gerry Spindler said prices would likely ease later in the year as supply levels responded to the higher cost, but he predicted they would remain above historical averages.
