Coalition calls on government to improve 'very slow' response to FMD

Shadow trade and tourism minister Kevin Hogan has proposed two solutions to help the government stop the potentially catastrophic Foot and Mouth Disease from spreading in Australia.

FMD is a highly contagious disease of livestock causing fever followed by the development of vesicles in the mouth and on the feet.

“This government make no mistake has been very slow to this, this is a great danger what we saw this week at Adelaide airport and through some of the food contamination is very dangerous,” Mr Hogan told Sky News Australia. “We should be doing two more things immediately, one of those things is compulsory decontamination of all shoes, now they’re still not doing that.

Multiple Coalition MPs have called for an immediate closure of Australia's border to Indonesia but Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has confirmed the government has “no plans to close the borders”.
