Chilly air and strong winds are helping make the temperature feel much cooler than the actual mercury reading.
Millions of people across eastern Australia woke to another morning of freezing temperatures today, with the cold snap forecast to continue for much of this week.
The result is a frigid blast of cold air that penetrates all but the heaviest woollen jumper or cardigan.The strong winds shown here across eastern Australia will continue into this evening. But the wind chill factor is making the "feel like" temperature much cooler than the actual mercury reading.The chilly conditions are forecast to continue in parts of southeastern Australia for the next few days, with the chance of new low-temperature records being set.
