Plans to squeeze a social housing block on a dense estate in Melbourne’s inner-north has prompted fears that existing tower residents could lose their car park as part of the government’s $5.3 billionDeputy Premier James Merlino and Housing Minister Richard Wynne, who is also the local MP, on Sunday announced a medium-rise building with 150 flats would be added to the Wellington Street estate.

“How do we have a life instead of being treated like a dog? Sorry, but that’s the way we’re being treated at the moment. Everything up in the air without communication skills,” Mr Joss said.He worried that adding another block to the estate could minimise privacy and block the sun, and has previously struggled to get help from the government for heating and security.

“Community consultation is an important part of master planning – we will work with residents to improve open spaces and connections to the neighbourhood,” Mr Wynne said in a statement toAnnouncing the project on Sunday, Mr Wynne said the estate was well located for public transport, health and welfare services and educational opportunities.
