With the U.S. Supreme Court at the cusp of ruling against affirmative action, Julan Garcia wonders how long non-profit organizations continue helping underprivileged, disadvantage youth?I was cruising around my stomping grounds on Tampico Street heading toward Laredo Street, remembering the timeworn old shanties, when I ventured beyond Laredo Street toward S. But rejection at every branch — because of my underweight classification — smashed my dreams and left a sour taste for that American Dream. I explained my financial situation amounted to $5 in a Frost Bank savings account — and a promise to my grandmother to take care of her as long as she lived.
After Nacho and I left, I experienced an uplifting feeling after having gone to Project Stay, completely forgetting my gloomy disappointment at the Arsenal recruiting center downtown.
