A Northern Territory policeman charged with the murder of a 19-year-old indigenous man has faced court for the first time in Alice Springs.
His family and community are calling for the matter to remain in the central desert due to the high cost of travelling to Darwin, which is 1500km north of Alice Springs.
David Edwardson, for Const Rolfe, said there had been widespread misreporting of the facts of the case and a fair trial would not be possible in Alice Springs.
