Communities in Victoria's east are expecting rain and potential flooding after being hit by several major fires on Sunday which forced residents and holiday-makers to evacuate.

Several communities in Gippsland, in Victoria's east, remain on hight alert as bushfires continue to burn, with multiple Watch and Act warnings in placeThe Bureau of Meteorology is expecting conditions to ease, saying rain is forecast from Tuesday

Bushfires and grassfires continued burning across the region overnight, with the communities of Briagolong, Culloden, Moornapa, Cobbannah and Loch Sport among those subject to Watch and Act warnings. Hundreds of firefighters were dispatched to battle the fires, and were expecting to continue tackling the blazes through Sunday night.

"That moisture moving in as well will be good news for this region which has just seen incredibly dry conditions," he said.
