A Laverton North cooling tower has been identified as the likely source of the state’s worst Legionnaire’s disease outbreak in more than two decades
A cooling tower in Melbourne’s west has been identified as the likely source of the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak which has killed two Victorians and spread to almost 90 cases.
Looker said most cases continued to be adults aged over 40. Approximately 75 of the confirmed cases and eight of the suspected cases had spent time in hospital as a result of their infection.Looker said the tower was visited early in the Health Department’s investigation, on July 30, and disinfected within 24 hours of that visit.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that the agency had provided weather information to the Department of Health to assist with its investigation into the outbreak.
