There have also been"multiple admissions to intensive care for severe community acquired pneumonia", according to the Victorian Department of Health. Ms Allan told reporters on Thursday she spoke with Chief Health Officer Dr Clare Looker a day earlier about the outbreak. Ms Allan said testing had so far identified a geographic range for the outbreak, which is Melbourne's north-west."People who present with the illness provide tests – they take between five to seven days to be processed," Ms Allan said.

The disease is caused by legionella bacteria which is found in natural bodies of water, as well as spas, warm water systems and artificial systems using water such as cooling towers.Jacinta Allan said individuals experiencing symptoms should seek urgent medical care.
