The occupant of an alleged stolen vehicle is the only survivor of a horror three-car crash which killed three people in what is suspected to be a domestic violence-related homicide.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the smash on the Bruce Highway, at Federal, about 40 kilometres west of Noosa Heads, on Friday just before 4am.
A 25-year-old man had approached the parked car and opened the doors, allegedly threatening the woman with a knife and demanding she hand the vehicle over.Detective Superintendent Regional Crime Coordinator Ben Fadian said early investigations indicate the stolen car had tried to ram the Navara on the motorway.
The 25-year-old man was found"in the vicinity" of the alleged stolen MU-X, however, police could not confirm he was behind the wheel at the time or a passenger. "That vehicle sped off and police desisted. At no stage did the Queensland Police Service try to pursue that vehicle," Det Supt Fadian said. The circumstances leading up to the collision remains under investigation.
