Police still fear retaliation against 'Lawyer X' who informed on gangland clients.

The barrister to Melbourne’s underworld, unmasked today as Lawyer X, now faces an “almost certain risk of death or harm”, according to a trial judge.

Court documents released this year cite a trial judge’s concerns that in revealing her identity to convicted individuals “there is likely to be an attempt on life”.Carl Williams' former solicitor Nicola Gobbo at the Magistrates’ Court.He went one step further, claiming “the trial judge should have found on the evidence that the proposed disclosure would result in an almost certain risk of death to ”.

“We’ve done all we can, we’ve taken it through the legal process … and we’ve sort of lost every step of the way,” Mr Ashton told 3AW. “All the assessments in relation to Lawyer X showed there were significant safety risks,” Mr Ashton said. “Since the Lawyer X publicity started, it would be fair to say … I feel the impact of this nightmare almost every single day.
