Co-captain Boyd Cordner was knocked out in a game he was desperate to play in honour of his cousin, Joel Dark, who died in a Newcastle Hospital on Friday. NRL2020
Dark, 19, collapsed during a rugby league game last weekend after copping a head knock. Cordner was given special exemption to leave the Roosters' bubble at the start of the week so he could be by Dark's bedside after he underwent emergency surgery. Dark also played for the Knights' Harold Matthews team.
Players stand for a minute's silence in memory of Boyd Cordner's cousin Joel Dark before kick-off at the Sydney Cricket Ground.Keary, who has had his own share of concussions in recent years, said of Cordner: "With [Cordner's] history it is a little bit worrying. But knowing Boyd, he'll want to get back as quick as possible and go through the right protocols, which they're on top of these days with the club doctors, NRL doctors and independent doctors.
The night was over well before that, as the Roosters raced out to a 24-0 lead midway through the first half. Cordner could have had the first four-pointer and only needed to fall over the line, but selflessly passed to Josh Morris to add to his own mega tally. As Williams made his way from the field the first time around the hour mark, Mitch Aubusson replaced him in his comeback game from a wrist injury. The 6375 fans chanted "Aubo". The Chooks hero drew level with Anthony Minichiello's club-record 302 games, and will enter rare Bondi air next Saturday against Cronulla.
