Dark, 19, collapsed on the field while playing for Central Newcastle in a rugby league game last Sunday and had been in a critical condition all week in the John Hunter Hospital. Boyd Cordner's cousin Joel Dark lost his life after a nasty head knock left him in a critical condition during a rugby league match in Newcastle.NSW Rugby League officials confirmed he had passed away on Friday, as Newcastle Rugby League postponed all fixtures this weekend as a mark of respect for Dark and his family.

Cordner was given permission to leave the Roosters' biosecurity bubble at the start of the week to make the mercy dash back to Newcastle and be by Dark's bedside.Dark underwent emergency brain surgery after receiving a head knock and collapsing during his first-grade debut for Central Newcastle.It is unclear if Cordner will play against Newcastle on Saturday night at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
