NSW police are "applying common sense" in enforcing coronavirus restrictions, a top commander says.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy told Today residents going about permitted activities had little to worry about. "We get a lot of people saying they're going out exercising. If they're a long way from home, we can turn them around quickly because we realise they're not being truthful with us. "If the people are giving us non valid reasons or misunderstanding the messages we're sending them home and they're accepting of that."and issued 111 COVID-19 related Penalty Infringement Notices up to yesterday afternoon.
Ass Comm Corboy said the fines included people who were deliberately sitting close together in parks and public spaces."There is allowances for fishing. There is allowances for exercising. Those people going out by themselves in little boats for pleasure only we're telling them to stay home around turning them around."
