Premier Daniel Andrews says there will be an announcement soon regarding the problem of rent in Victoria amid the pandemic. “The moratorium on evictions is very, very important. We don’t want to see people come essentially homeless.” Live updates:
Hours after federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck said it would be "ambitious" for the NRL to kick off a modified season on May 28, the NSW Health Minister has said the league had health and safety issues to deal with before the league could resume.
"I think it is fair to say we would all love to see the league back playing, but the problem ... for NRL is they do have to make sure they are keeping their players safe and complying with health orders. Can they keep all their employees safe?" But he added: "As Health Minister, I have to just remind everybody that there are work health and safety issues and health issues. I am sure NRL are a mature organisation and they will work through the issues in due course."NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard says there have been two more COVID-19 deaths overnight taking the death toll to 26.
"The fact that we had nine new cases clearly indicates we are moving in the right direction but we still have a lot more to do and no one should think we can slacken off," Mr Hazzard said.
