Two hospitals on Tasmania's north-west coast will be shut and cleaned as authorities race to contain a coronavirus outbreak, with staff and their families required to isolate for 14 days.
Mr Gutwein said hospital staff and other members of their households - more than 1000 people in total - will need to quarantine for two weeks from their last shift. The hospitals will close from 7am on Monday. Patients will be transferred to Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe. Patients will only be moved from the north-west region if there is a "clinical requirement to do so".
"We need to take immediate steps to stem any further potential spread." Mr Gutwein said. "We need to ensure we crush this virus at its source."
