Announced by Health Minister Roger Cook on Thursday, the move means only transport and freight workers will be permitted to enter, as well as those granted special permission by WA Police.
“No one will be allowed if they have been in Victoria for the last 14 days unless they fall into the new, even tighter list of exemptions,” Mr Cook said.WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the number of people from the eastern states crossing the border had dropped by 98 per cent since the pandemic struck.
The aircraft contained “several hundred” Victorians seeking to enter the state under several exemption categories, including essential and specialist workers, fly-in, fly-out workers, compassionate grounds and ‘those otherwise seeking exemption’.Of the 165 additional people diagnosed in the past 24 hours, the majority are residents of local government areas in the city’s inner-north and west.
"Officers were told the 63-year-old woman had told security and hotel staff she had an exemption from NSW Health to travel, and while they were attempting to verify her claims, she left the hotel to travel to Sydney Airport to board an international flight," police said.
