NSW has recorded seven new coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour reporting period. The state's daily test figure dropped to 8835, after NSW Health expressed concern yesterday that not enough people were coming forward for testing.

Sydney and Melbourne property prices fell the most in Australia over the June quarter, with price declines of more than 2 per cent at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sydney houses dropped 2.6 per cent compared to apartments, which saw prices drop 1.4 per cent. In Melbourne house prices dropped 2.8 per cent compared to a 1 per cent decline in apartment values. However, the rental market tightened between July and August for all capital cities with the exception of Melbourne which is still tackling tough restrictions to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Latest monthly data from property research company CoreLogic recorded a fourth consecutive month of national house value falls in August, down 0.4 per cent, with Melbourne values dropping the most at 1.2 per cent. Sydney property prices declined 0.5 per cent over the same period.Announcements on the staged return of elective surgery won't be made today, but Premier Daniel Andrews has promised authorities are "very close" to finalising a plan.
