A coroner's report revealed a 98-year-old Melbourne woman who was known for regularly collecting wild edible grasses and making meals from them, died after consuming hand-picked poisonous mushrooms.

Ms Del Rossi died on May 22 after eating a meal of tuna and rice with mushrooms she picked from the front yard of her home and prepared it for herself and her son Nicola Del Rossi. On May 15, Ms Del Rossi spotted the same mushrooms and prepared it with tuna and rice for herself and her son again. They both ate the meal at night and did not feel unwell after. The pair were transported to the Angliss Hospital via ambulance shortly after for treatment.
She was then transferred to Eastern Health Wantirna for palliative care and symptom management after which she died. Shortly before Ms Del Rossi's death, the Victorian Department of Health published thorough advice on the dangers of picking and consuming death cap and yellow-staining mushrooms.
