Janie O’Neill, a chief officer of education at North Lanarkshire Council, is set to take up the post before the end of the year.

Renfrewshire Council has confirmed the appointment of Janie O’Neill as the local authority’s new director of children’s services.

A former depute head teacher at Dalziel High School in Motherwell and head teacher at Coatbridge High School, she has been in her current job since 2019. Candidates were interviewed on Wednesday as part of a process which saw elected members listen to their pitches, before asking them questions. Since Mr Quinn’s departure Julie Calder, head of education for curriculum and school infrastructure, has stepped up in a temporary capacity to become chief education officer.
