The Canterbury Bankstown Council are using small pieces of glass in the sub-base of asphalt on roads to try and reduce the occurrence of potholes. 9News
"It's unique because we're recycling small pieces of glass, which is very difficult to recycle normally compared to a whole bottle," Anthony Vangi from Canterbury Bankstown Council said.The results are 20 per cent greater compaction in the road surface meaning it is 20 per cent stronger.
The trial has taken place in a section of Marion Street, Georges Hall, which needed repairs to the curb and gutter."We constructed a new sub-base for the asphalt to sit on and the new curb and gutter," Vangi said. "Having glass in road base does work, and this is something we are now looking to roll out," Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said.some of the highest call outs for pothole damage to carsSydney saw its wettest autumn to date with more than 1500 millimetres of rain falling in the past five months, according to Weatherzone."Potholes with the weather we've been having are a major problem," Asfour said.
