The Manhattan District Attorney wants Mr Trump's financial records as part of an investigation into claims he paid hush money to two women who claim they had affairs with him before the 2016 election. Mr Trump described the process as "a political witch hunt, the likes of which nobody's ever seen before". Mr Trump is the first president since Richard Nixon to refuse to release his tax returns; a decision which has proved hugely controversial.
