The number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria for which the source of infection cannot be traced is on the rise, health department data shows.

Unlinked cases have caused concern for health authorities throughout the pandemic as they suggest there have been people out in the community with the virus who are unaccounted for and who have passed on the virus to others. Because of the time it takes for health authorities to trace the infection source of each positive case, all cases under investigation on the map above are cases that have been confirmed since the start of this week.

It’s important to note that unlinked cases make up a small proportion of the local cases confirmed over the past fortnight.
