A disturbing new report has revealed one in four women who experienced domestic violence during the pandemic said they had been unable to seek assistance on at least one occasion.

It found 3.4 per cent of women said they were violently assaulted, 3.2 per cent of women experienced sexual violence and 18 per cent noticed emotionally abusive, harrassing and controlling behaviours. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, a range of public health measures have been implemented to limit the spread of COVID-19 including stay-at-home orders, border closures - with schools and businesses forced to work remotely.
Mission Australia CEO James Toomey says more action and solutions must be put in place so that when people reach out for help, they can be assured there will be appropriate services, support and accommodation available. "This is especially urgent considering COVID-19 has caused an increase in the frequency and severity of domestic and family violence."
