Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged parents to get their children vaccinated before they return to school.

Queensland children aged five to 11 will be able to have a COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the new school year.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland Health would accept bookings for children aged five to 11 to receive a COVID-19 vaccine from January 10.“It’s important that we get as many children vaccinated as we can before school goes back,” she said. “We know this pandemic can actually have impacts on the unvaccinated, mild symptoms in children, but we do want to make sure that our children are protected.”“Children get vaccinated for a whole range of diseases ... we get start getting vaccinated from when we’re born,” she said.“So look, I just urge you, any parents who have any concerns, and it is discretionary, to please go and talk to their GP, but there has been extensive tests done on this and they’re getting a smaller dosage of Pfizer.

On Saturday, 90.4 per cent of Queensland’s population had received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, while 85.9 per cent were fully vaccinated.Once the state hits the 90 per cent double-dose rate, there would be no requirements or restrictions for travelling into Queensland.Save
