Woolworths says it is aware of and “reviewing” the testimony by its recently hired group treasurer, Sarah Scopel, that she gaveThe Star Entertainment Group, in which admitted she misled National Australia Bank over money laundering activities by high rollers.
Scopel, who was hired in October by the supermarkets giant as group treasurer, held a similar role at The Star. The inquiry was told Scopel and two other Star executives set out to deceive NAB in a series of emails in November 2019 where they purposely omitted gambling, instead stating the money from the 156 transactions was spent on “hotels, restaurants and other entertainment facilities”.
