A controversial penalty on the siren has allowed the North Queensland Cowboys to pull off the great escape in a remarkable finish against the Wests Tigers.
The Cowboys kicked off with one second remaining, and the ball was fielded by Tigers fullback Daine Laurie. North Queensland called for a captain’s challenge, believing Kyle Feldt had been run off the ball by Tigers centre Asu Kepaoa. Klein awarded a penalty to the Cowboys, leaving Tigers players and commentators in disbelief.
. If they weren’t running last, they at least weren’t expected to be fighting their way out of a bottom four to which they had been consigned for the past four years.
