'If I go out I've got a spray, it's just what you do, I wouldn't go out without it'
Preston is littered with overpopulated estates, branching off the main roads with their winding paths. But it's the more tightly packed boroughs - the ones you'll have to know to find - where police say stir up the most trouble.
The local community is often seen less than involved with each other's lives with just a small cluster of shops stood at the end of the eerily quite road. "It's just Moor Nook though" says mum-of-three Katrina, who, when told of the force's efforts in the area seemed baffled at the thought of such measures.
The sound of motorbikes whizzing along the roads - often limited at 20mph - is a sound every resident in the area seemed keen to discuss. Katrina recalls a horrifying moment she heard a car going so fast she had convinced herself that person had been seriously hurt. Lancashire Constabulary say Moor Nook is one of the many key areas of focus in its new operation dedicated to steering vulnerable young people away from getting involved in crime and anti social behaviour. A door down from Katrina, 70-year-old Betty Copeland says it's a relief to hear of police work to tackle crime in the area.
"I'd like it to be a nicer area, Once my husband goes to work, I don't go anywhere, I don't wander about. I felt safer in my old home, in Burnley, than I do here I used to do a lot of walking but my husband doesn't like me doing a lot of walking on my own. If I go out I've got a spray, it's just what you do, I wouldn't go out without it. It's what you get used to doing, I feel safer having that spray.
Lancashire Police have launched Operation Dragonfish following reports of concern from local residents. The task force is currently working in collaboration with local organisations like Preston City Council, Divert Youth Team, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, CSP Street Safety Officers and the JJ Effect.
