Latitude Financial has responded after hackers who launched a cyber attack on the company issued a ransom demand.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company said it will not reward criminal behaviour, and believed paying a ransom"will be detrimental" to customers and cause harm by encouraging further attacks."Based on the evidence and advice, there is simply no guarantee that doing so would result in any customer data being destroyed and it would only encourage further extortion attempts on Australian and New Zealand businesses in the future.

Hackers broke through the company's systems on March 16, taking with them copies of almost 8 million driver's licences from customers across Australia and New Zealand. The company remains in the process of contacting customers past and present who had information stolen but has vowed to reach them all"as quickly as we can".
