Park rangers have confirmed a potential new sighting of a crocodile in waters around North Stradbroke Island is a dugong.

“Rangers and wildlife officers have reviewed footage taken this morning and have confirmed it shows a dugong in shallow waters on the eastern side of the island,” a DES spokesman said.However DES said they were still taking the initial reports of a sighting seriously and were continuing efforts to confirm or deny whether a crocodile was in the area.

Queensland rangers have been searching for the crocodile since Wednesday, after a local kayak tour guide reported seeing a three-metre animal at Myora Springs, about four kilometres from One Mile Jetty.
