Wildlife authorities in north Queensland are investigating an alleged attempt to hook and kill a crocodile with a homemade trap. Townsville-based senior wildlife officer, Tony Frisby, said the river system was home to a 3.8 metre "problem crocodile" which authorities were trying to relocate.Supplied: Queensland government"We went down to have a look for a trap site and while we were there we located a piece of silver rope, with a large hook attached to a wire trace," he explained.Mr Frisby said the crocodile, if caught on the hook, would have died a painful death.

"It is sad to think that people will take this type of action when we have a process for dealing with problem crocodiles," Mr Frisby said.Queensland's Department of Enviornment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said poaching and animal cruelty would not be tolerated.
