Cronulla will meet Penrith in next week’s NRL preliminary final after a 26-18 win over North Queensland
Ronaldo Mulitalo runs in a try for the Sharks in the NRL semi-final against North Queensland Cowboys at Allianz Stadium.Ronaldo Mulitalo runs in a try for the Sharks in the NRL semi-final against North Queensland Cowboys at Allianz Stadium.Braydon Trindall came of age to help Cronulla end their finals drought, sending North Queensland packing with a 26-18 win at Allianz Stadium.
Friday night had loomed as the Sharks’ most important game since the 2016 grand final, given their struggles in finals matches and question marks over Hynes’s form. But they showed no signs of nerves in the first half, with Trindall overcoming his own personal issues this year to stand tall. Another try came when Trindall put up a bomb, stayed alive on the play and scored after Briton Nikora batted the kick back and Jesse Ramien flicked the ball out to the No 6.
On that occasion it was Trindall who picked up the loose ball, before flicking it back for Cameron McInnes to reach over the line and score. And when Trindall helped Kayal Iro send Mulitalo over just before half-time, the Sharks’ 24-0 lead appeared unassailable.
