Crown Sydney chief executive Simon McGrath has resigned and will leave the high-roller casino in September, with owner Blackstone likely to replace him with a new recruit from Macau.

The Australian Financial ReviewMr McGrath’s exit ends a whirlwind tenure for the former hotel boss.He left the CEO position at Accor Pacific in February this year to take the top job at Crown’s new Barangaroo tower, where he was key to rehabilitating the company in the eyes of the regulators and the public after it was declared unfit to run the casino due to a damaging NSW probe into Crown’s practices.

Crown Sydney only opened the first of its gaming floors in early August – 16 months after the tower finished construction – after the NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority granted it a provisional licence to operate.
