The NSW moderate Liberals are hunting for a successor in the state electorate of Vaucluse after long-term MP and one-time attorney-general Gabrielle Upton announced she would not contest the March 2023 election.
Daisy Turnbull is among a list of well-credentialed women whom NSW Liberal insiders have approached to run in a plum Sydney state seat in an attempt to head off a potential teal threat.
Ms Upton has held the seat for 12 years and secured a formidable margin of 20 per cent in 2019 state election. But her resignation came as a surprise to many colleagues who are bracing themselves for a raft of possible teal threats at the upcoming state election. While Ms Upton has committed to serving out her term as an MP and parliamentary secretary, her resignation has paved the way for what is expected to be a tight pre-selection battle.
Others with strong support from within the party include popular Woollahra mayor Susan Wynne and Coalition for Conservation chair Cristina Talacko.
