Regional MPs say the government's decision to delay the return of parliament by another month is leading to a lack of scrutiny when it's needed most.
New South Wales regional MPs have expressed deep concern at the Berejiklian government's decision to delay the return of state parliament by another month.Speaker Jonathon O'Dea has told members a September sitting has been cancelledParliament has not held a sitting day since a COVID scare in the hours after the state budget was delivered on June 24.
But Deputy Premier John Barilarlo revealed last week that parliment would not sit until "possibly" October, saying the plan was to hold off until NSW hit its next vaccination target. "By the end of September we would have lost, I think, five sitting weeks, and we can make up those sitting weeks from October onwards."In an email to members of the Legislative Assembly on Monday afternoon, Speaker Jonathon O'Dea told members the September sitting was cancelled based on health advice.
