Dean Cluney and Tyrone Gardner were sentenced after pleading guilty to breaking into a home, then intimidating two female occupants before crash that killed Tania Murphy, her sons and a nephew at Yanco.

Two men who broke into a home and menaced its occupants in the lead-up to a crash that killed a woman and three children have been sentenced to jail but will both be released before year's end.

The crash killed Ms Murphy, her nephew Malakai Murphy, 10, and her sons Jeremiah, 10, and Nathaniel Schmetzer, 11.In Griffith District Court on Monday, Judge Clive Jeffreys sentenced Cluney to two years and 10 months' jail, with a non-parole period of one year and five months, dated to when he was arrested after the crash on April 5, 2023.Gardner received two years and eight months, with a non-parole period of one year and two months.

She then drove away with the three boys in the car, followed "at a distance" by the car driven by Chattaway with Cluney and Gardner as passengers.At an earlier court appearance, both men told Judge Jeffreys they would stay away from drugs following their eventual release from prison. In sentencing, Judge Jeffreys said he took into account the "significantly deprived" backgrounds of the pair, with Cluney experiencing an upbringing plagued by domestic violence, sexual abuse and parents with "chronic poly-substance" abuse issues.
