A self-described experienced horse breaker has been fined and sentenced to a community correction order for a silly decision to use a lasso to strangle a brumby.

A Tamworth man filmed choking a brumby in the Kosciuszko National Park while on holiday has described his actions as"a stupid thing to do", a court has heard.The defence told the court Burchell described himself as an experienced horse breaker and was attempting to restrain the brumby

Graeme Philip Burchell, 61, was sentenced in the Cooma Local Court today to a 14-month community correction order for committing an act of cruelty upon an animal, and a $700 fine for injuring an animal in a park in November 2018.
