Our budget blog is now live. Tune in for everything you need to know about the 2019 FederalBudget

Hello and welcome to our live blog of the 2019 federal budget which is unique in many ways, not least because it is being delivered by a first-time treasurer in Josh Frydenberg but also because it comes in April, instead of the second Tuesday in May.This is the second time this coalition government has broken with tradition. In 2016, the budget was brought forward to the first Tuesday in May to accommodate the double dissolution election Malcolm Turnbull went on to call.

Tonight's budget similarly is set against the backdrop of a looming election campaign which Prime Minister Scott Morrison could fire the start gun on as soon as Sunday. Put short, this is no ordinary debut for Josh Frydenberg. Tonight the Treasurer carries the Coalition's election hopes on his shoulders as he delivers what is essentially, the government's election pitch.
