A testing expert has backed the Victorian government's decision to roll out COVID-19 self-testing kits in hotspot areas, even as questions are raised about their accuracy.
In a bid to trace the virus the state's Health Department has started dropping self-test kits at homes in Melbourne’s coronavirus hotspots. But the tests require people to insert a plastic swab so far up the nose it causes significant discomfort, raising questions about whether untrained people will use them properly."The government needs to make sure these testing kits are used accurately. And frankly, you need support for that, you cannot expect people to do all that themselves," Victorian Opposition Leader Michael O'Brien told radio station 3AW on Saturday.
